SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – A local nonprofit wants to make New Mexico a safer environment for girls.

Monday, Girls Inc. of Santa Fe launched the “Girls Too” campaign. It expands the “Me Too” movement, focusing on growing awareness for girls impacted by sexual harassment.

The New Mexico Coalition of Sexual Assault Programs says one in three New Mexico girls is sexually assaulted before age 18.

Girls Inc. wants to change that.

“Our communities will be stronger when both women, girls, boys, everyone…stand up and say, ‘No. No longer does this need to happen,'” Girls Inc. CEO Kim Brown said.

Santa Fe leaders and officials also took a pledge, committing themselves to standing up for equality.
