What is Inspirations?

Inspirations is a way to lift up and celebrate the impact and rich diversity of strong, smart, and bold women and girls in New Mexico through a publication and an Unveiling event.

 

Why Inspiration? 

The inaugural launch of Inspirations: Celebrating Strong, Smart, and Bold New Mexican Women and Girls in 2023 seeks to create awareness and knowledge about Girls Inc. of Santa Fe, as well as celebrate women and girls across the State of New Mexico, and the Pueblos of Acoma, Cochiti, Isleta, Jemez, Laguna, Nambé (Tewa Nambé Oweengé), Ohkay Owingeh, Picuris (Tiwa P’įwweltha), Pojoaque (Tewa Pʼohsųwæ̨geh Ówîngeh), Sandia (Tiwa Tuf Shur Tia), San Felipe (Keres Katishtya), San Ildefonso (Tewa Pʼohwhogeh Ówîngeh), Santa Ana (Tamaya), Santa Clara (Tewa Khaʼpʼoe Ówîngeh), Santo Domingo (Kewa), Taos (Tiwa Tə̂otho), Tesuque (Tewa Tetsʼúgéh Ówîngeh), Zia and Zuni. As well as the Navajo Nation (Diné); The Apache Nations of Fort Sill Apache, Jicarilla Apache and Mescalero Apache; and The Ute Mountain Indian Reservation.

 

Nominees will be great role-models and have made a difference in the lives of their families, schools, friends, colleagues, communities and organizations. 

 

Who Can Be Honored?

Please note, at Girls Inc. of Santa Fe, we are committed to gender equity and respond to modern advances in our understanding of gender identity and expression by welcoming cisgender girls and cisgender young women, transgender girls and transgender young women, those who are exploring their gender identity or expression, non-binary individuals and individuals who experience gender-based oppression.

 

How are The Women and Girls Selected for the Book? 

Anyone who would like to honor a woman or girl for the impact they have made on their family, friends, schools, colleagues, communities and/or organizations may be nominated to be included in the Inspirations book. Qualities considered should align with Girls Inc. values and principles and include significant impact on others, Integrity, demonstration of diversity/inclusion and being a strong role model. A review committee composed of Girls Inc. of Santa Fe and other representatives will review applications and have the final approval of each applicant. Upon completion- and acceptance- of the Application and Commitment forms, securing the financing and submitting the text and photo, the honoree will be included in the book and celebrated at the Inspiration event.

Is Inspirations a surprise? 

Inspirations can be a surprise. We keep our honorees’ names under-wrap until the unveiling event. If you feel your honoree would be more comfortable knowing in advance, you may certainly share this with her/they before the unveiling. Internally, we will keep all names confidential until the book has been released at the event. 

 

Please note, minors will need to be approved by parent(s) or legal guardians. 

Who is an Inspirations Nominator? 

Individuals wishing to honor someone are called Inspirations nominators. They are the main point of contact for Girls Inc. of Santa Fe. They are responsible for obtaining a photo, submitting the text and securing the financing for the Inspiration page. They may coordinate this themselves, or ask others to assist. They make sure the honoree attends the unveiling event, and invites family and friends, and those that have contributed financially to the tribute, to the unveiling. How do I Reserve a Space for my honoree? 

To reserve a space in Inspirations, please submit the Nomination Form. The payment may follow as soon as your nominee is accepted with text and photo to follow by the designated deadline. Commitments should be made and paid for in full no later than May 26, 2023.

What are the Different Levels of Inspirations

There are three levels of Inspirations recognitions, each with different financial levels, word counts and photos:

  • ½ page – $550, 125 words max, and one photo.
  • Full page – $1,000, 250 words max, and one photo.
  • 2-page spread – $2,500, 500 words max and up to five photos.

 Please note, all groups of four or more must purchase the 2-page spread.

What kind of Photo Should You Use? 

Photos can be black and white, or color, but all photos must be high quality (Hi res photos are generally considered to be anything that has a DPI/PPI of 300 or higher). All photos will be printed in black and white in the book.

Please note, images pulled from social media are not a quality resolution for printing purposes. Word files (.doc) or photos from social media are not acceptable.

Preferred Formats for Digital Photographs? 

Digital photographs must be a minimum quality of 300 ppi at a 5” X 7” size. The preferred format is a jpg, however we can sometimes use tifs, eps, psd file formats.

How do I Submit a Photo? 

Please submit photos online please use the Inspirations Timeline and Checklist by July 1, 2023. Digital photos must be a minimum quality of 300 ppi at a 5” X 7” size. 

 We will confirm that your photo is usable in the format submitted. 

How Many Words Are Allowed for Each Inspirations Nominee? 

  • ½ page tribute – 125 words 
  • Full page tribute – 250 words 
  • 2-page spread – 500 words 

Please note, all words including ‘a’, ‘the’, ‘and’ are counted.

 

Please submit the final draft as you would like it published. We cannot make changes once the tribute pages are laid out. GISF will reach out if we believe we found a typo.

How Do I Submit the Text?

Can I Include My Organization’s Logo? 

Yes. If you are honoring one of your employees or colleagues, or an individual on behalf of a particular organization we will include your logo. Please provide a vector file formatted logo via Timeline and Checklist. These are files ending in ‘ai’. You may not be able to open this type of file without special software. Vector files provide the best quality for reproduction. Please note, all logos will be printed in black and white, or grayscale. 

Do I Have to Write the Text? 

You do not have to write the text, however, as a nominator, you are responsible for having someone write the text and submitting it for publication by July 1, 2023. Please edit the text as once submitted we cannot make any changes. Will I Get to See a Page Proof of My Tribute Before it is Printed? 

Yes. All nominators will receive an electronic proof and will need to respond ASAP (date to be provided) with approval to print. The page proofs serve to make sure the honoree’s name is spelled correctly and the text and photo are correct. Copy edits cannot be made at this time.

 

How Do I Secure the Financing? 

Financing is secured in a number of different ways. Some individuals or businesses will write one check to cover the entire cost. Others will ask family and friends or a professional or volunteer group to contribute. Contributions can be divided evenly amongst a group or they can be asked to contribute an amount they are comfortable with. There is no one way to secure the financing, but you should have someone coordinating an ask and submitting one payment to us. You may also have access to a company matching program. Ask your employer if this is available for you. 

What if I Collect More Than the Amount for a Half Page, but Want to do a Full Page? Financial contributions must equal at least the minimum for the level of tribute you would like to use. 

Are Contributions Tax Deductible?

Yes. Contributions are tax deductible as allowed by law. Girls Inc. will send an acknowledgement letter with tax information for your records. 

  • ½ page tribute –  Includes one Inspirations book and one ticket to the Unveiling breakfast ($450 Tax-Deductible) Book $15 and Breakfast $35
  •  Full page tribute – Includes two Inspirations books and two tickets to the Unveiling breakfast ($900 Tax-Deductible)
  • 2-page spread – Includes four Inspirations books and four tickets to the Unveiling breakfast $2,500 ($2,200 Tax-Deductible)

Payment Options? 

Payment may be made in check or credit card. We can accept American Express, MasterCard, Visa and Discover. Please make sure you include the name of the honoree that you are contributing towards so we make sure the right tribute is credited.  

Is there a Deadline for Submitting an Inspirations Tribute

Yes. Payment is due no later than May 26, 2023 and text and photo submissions are due by May 15, 2023. In order to design and print the books for the unveiling, the deadline must be met. Please see the Timeline and Checklist for uploading details.

 

What is The Unveiling? 

Girls Inc. will host an unveiling event for all honorees, their nominators, supporters, family and friends. This will take place at Bishops Lodge on August 24, 2023. At a designated time during the breakfast, nominators will present a gift wrapped book to their honoree. Please make sure your honoree is able to attend. 

 

Is There a Cost to Attend the Unveiling? 

Yes, there is a cost to attend the unveiling. There is a fee for all attendees of $50 except for the honorees. 

 

What Should I Expect at the Unveiling? 

At the unveiling, Girls Inc. of Santa Fe representatives will share the purpose of Inspirations, collectively recognize those honored in the book and hear the Girls Inc. Girl of the Year speak. It is a time to celebrate these strong, smart, and bold women and girls that are representative of New Mexico’s diverse culture.  

 

How do I Get My Honoree to the Unveiling Without Telling Her/They it’s for Her/They? 

As a supporter of Girls Inc., invite your honoree to attend a Girls Inc. of Santa Fe event with you as your guest. It is your responsibility to invite and ensure your honoree is in attendance.

 

Do We Have to Purchase a Book? 

No. Books are available through the generosity of our Inspirations sponsors. All attendees and honorees may have books to keep and share.
