Suzanne Kern, Board Member
Suzanne is endlessly curious about people, places, and how the world works. Her love of learning and teaching started early, supported by family, friends, teachers, and mentors. She deeply admires the people involved in Girls, Inc. of Santa Fe and is moved by the important work they do day in and day out.
Suzanne is the Director of Education at the Santa Fe Institute, where researchers span disciplinary boundaries to study complex systems. She earned her PhD in Biology from MIT, investigating unusual metabolic pathways in bacteria. After teaching at Caltech and the Claremont Colleges in California, she moved to Santa Fe in 2016. For many years she was a professor of natural sciences at Minerva University, an innovative liberal arts college that brings together students from around the world to live and learn as a community in a different global city each year, using evidence-based educational practices.
