I was blessed to grow up in a lovely suburb of Toronto with two loving parents who encouraged and supported my dream to explore a career in fashion, despite the trend at the time for women to settle down with a husband and family. After exploring different avenues in the world of fashion, I eventually found that my passion leaned more towards fashion fabrics, and I joined the Hudson Bay Company as national fabric buyer. After 3 years with HBC, I was hired by Hamil Textiles as their Design Director. As Hamil grew, I moved to NYC where I helped set up our first US office and became VP of Design and Marketing. I felt I had the best job in the world, traveling to Japan, Korea and China to source fabrications, researching design trends in Europe, and working with our studio of talented textile designers in New York who created Hamil’s collections to sell to womenswear designers and manufacturers.

After 23 years of travel and living in NYC, I felt the call to move to Santa Fe for the quieter and more peaceful lifestyle it provided. Not feeling quite ready to retire, I started a new textile division for Hamil, The World of Susybee, catering to the childrenswear, nursery decor and quilt market. After growing that company for twelve years, I finally retired in 2021.

Living in Santa Fe has also allowed me to pursue my passion for renovating homes and interior design.  In between several home renovations, I’ve enjoyed traveling to new and adventurous places, particularly Africa which keeps calling me back. While at home, my two dogs Maddie and Henry keep me entertained and active. And because I have lived such a blessed and rewarding life, I feel fortunate that Girls Inc is allowing me the opportunity to give back in a meaningful way and make a difference in the lives of these beautiful young girls.
